Music at Kingshott so far this term!

Music at Kingshott School in HitchinMusic is a key part of life at Kingshott and much has been taking place already this term!

All year groups have been enjoying their music lessons with our specialist music teacher, Mr Rhodes.

For example, Year 4  have been exploring different musical structures including binary and ternary form, as well as developing the reading and writing of musical notation! They also enjoyed exploring different contrasts in  playing, including tempo (speed), dynamics (volume) and timbre (using different instrumental sounds).

Music lessons at Kingshott SchoolOur many music groups have also begun meeting and enjoying making music together. This includes our new Chamber Choir which was formed following auditions at the beginning of term.

Music is a notable strength at Kingshott - which was highlighted in our last ISI inspection

"Music is a strength in the school with all pupils making excellent use of opportunities to appreciate music and to compose their own."

Also, Muddy Stilettos praised Music at Kingshott in their recent review:

DrumlessonMusic has also had an overhaul, with a new Director of Music appointed in Jan 2022. James Rhodes has completely torn up the curriculum and re-written the rule book on how music should be taught to young people today. During my visit he tells me how the kids have been learning how South Korean pop related to classical music, curating Spotify playlists for musical comedies and discovering every genre from African folk singing to Opera. He also encourages the children to bring their personal music interests into the classroom, which keeps it interesting and relevant for them.”
