Year 3 learn all about Geology!

Year 3 enjoyed a fascinating and insightful visit from a geologist as part of their topic work on 'Rocks and Soils'. Mrs Dunne taught the pupils all about the tools used by geologists, and items needed to carry out investigations.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed Mrs Dunne’s talk – especially when she transformed into Mary Anning and they were told the story of her many discoveries of fossils in Lyme Regis during her life (1799-1847). The pupils learnt how Anning's discoveries and sketches were highly influential in developing our knowledge of prehistoric animals.

After her talk, Mrs Dunne also encouraged the children to be geologists themselves. She helped identify the fossils they had brought in and explained what is known about them.

At Kingshott, learning comes to life through talks, trips and activities such as this geologist visit - thank you for coming into school to inspire and educate our pupils Mrs Dunne!
