Journey to Joining

Kingshott is a wonderfully friendly and welcoming community. We understand that considering — and then joining — a new school can sometimes feel a little daunting, both for children and their parents. We take great pride in supporting families as they choose the right school for their children and in guiding them through their Journey to Joining Kingshott.

Below is our step-by-step Journey to Joining guide for prospective families. You can also find this information, along with further details about assessments for each year group and a selection of Admissions FAQs, in our Key Information booklet, available at the bottom of this page.

1. Find out more about Kingshott
Begin by exploring what makes Kingshott such a special place. Read our prospectus, browse our latest news to see what our pupils have been doing, watch our videos, or give us a call for an informal chat. You can contact Mrs Payne, our Admissions Manager, on 01462 432009 or by emailing admissions@kingshottschool.com.

2. Come and visit us
We warmly encourage you to visit Kingshott. You can arrange a personal tour, reserve a place at one of our Open Events, or attend one of our Kingshott Totts sessions (ideal if you are considering a Nursery or Reception place for your child). Families are welcome to visit as many times as they wish — to gain a true sense of life at Kingshott and to discover why we may be the ideal choice for your child’s education.

3. Register your child
If you would like your child to join Kingshott, the first step is to complete our Registration Form. A non-refundable registration fee of £100 is payable for Nursery applicants, and £120 for pupils entering Reception and above (inclusive of VAT). Registration confirms your child’s interest in joining Kingshott, subject to availability of places.

If you wish to register for Years 1–6, or to join Reception or Year 7 mid-year, please contact us beforehand to confirm availability and to discuss where your child may be placed on the waiting list.

While we recommend registering as early as possible, we fully appreciate that family circumstances — such as relocation — can change, sometimes requiring a quicker transition.

4. Offering your child a place
Children are welcome to join Kingshott throughout the year, depending on age and the availability of places. Nursery places are offered once a child is approaching their third birthday, and offers are made at various points during the year as spaces become available.

Children joining our Reception classes are invited, along with their parents or guardians, to attend an informal ‘Getting to Know You’ session at Kingshott. Offers for Reception places are normally made in December, ahead of the September start date, although sessions and offers can take place at other times of the year depending on availability.

Pupils joining our Senior School (Years 7, 8 and 9) are invited to attend one of our Assessment Mornings in January, prior to the September of entry. Families who are unable to attend at that time, and where spaces remain available, may be invited to a later assessment in the Spring or Summer Term.

We also offer a Year 6 Deferred Entry Pathway for families wishing to secure a place for 13+ entry. Further information about this, as well as Assessment Morning dates, can be found in our Information Booklet below.

Children joining other year groups (space permitting) — from Year 1 upwards — will be considered for a place in line with our assessment criteria. Offers are made when we are confident that we can meet the individual needs of each applicant while maintaining the balance and dynamic of each year group.

5. Accepting a place
Families are required to formally accept the offer of a place by completing our Acceptance Form and paying a
£500 deposit. This deposit is deducted from your final account when your child leaves the School. Please note that, should your child not subsequently join Kingshott, the deposit is non-refundable.

Once your child’s place has been accepted, we will invite your family to take part in a variety of Joining Events and activities designed to support a smooth and happy transition into Kingshott. These events are carefully tailored to each child’s age and stage of entry.

At any stage in your Journey to Joining Kingshott School, Mrs Payne will be delighted to assist you. Please contact her on 01462 432009 or via email at admissions@kingshottschool.com.
