SUBJECT NAME: DRAMA

Aims of the subject:

Drama at Kingshott is designed to ensure all children, whether they are natural performers or not, have the opportunity to take part in and explore their communication skills. The syllabus is designed to establish key skills that will help the children throughout their early years and way beyond into adult life and include;

  • To expand their vocabulary and improve powers of self-expression
  • To memorise and recall information
  • To read easily, fluently and with good understanding
  • To research and create persuasive arguments and presentations
  • To work both on their own and participate as a member of a team.

 

Assessment methods:

The children take part in Group LAMDA exams every other year. Individual LAMDA is offered for those children who would like to do it. The entire school perform a musical theatre production every other year and the Year 7 and 8 children put on a Drama performance in the intervening years.

Teaching techniques:

Drama is designed to cater for all approaches – be they technically minded or performance led. The curriculum is delivered by a teacher who is an industry specialist and RSC qualified.

Use of ICT within the subject:

Once the children enter the upper part of the school they have the opportunity to explore the technical side of productions.
