Category / School NewsYear 1 had a 'hoot' learning all about owls!
Just before we broke up for half term, the owls flew into Kingshott and the Year 1 children were visited by The English School of Falconry!
The children were very lucky to be introduced to six owls to support their Science and Topic work. The children were able to meet: Simba the Tawny Owl, Akao the White Faced Skops Owl, Toby the Spectacled Owl, Midge the Barn Owl, Nelson the African Spotted Eagle Owl and Bracon the European Eagle Owl.
Whilst learning some very interesting facts about owls (including the collective name for a group owls being a ‘Parliament’), the children were able to hold Simba the Tawny Owl.
Pupils also had the opportunity to experience Midge the Barn Owl flying between them, and they were able to watch Nelson the African Spotted Eagle Owl run across the hall to get his pieces of chicken.
Through seeing and interacting with the owls, the learning was really brought to life for all of our Year 1 pupils. We were very proud of how well all the children behaved and how they all engaged so enthusiastically in the whole experience. A fantastic afternoon was had by all!
