Pupils at Kingshott enjoyed an eventful and exciting day to mark the coronation of King Charles III. The school-wide activities ranged from decorating pebbles, to planting a tree and filling a time capsule!
There was bunting everywhere, and it was a joy to see all the children dressed in red, white and blue enjoying the day's events yet also learning some of the history of our Royal family and country.
The Pre Prep children painted patriotic stones. In the Prep school, every child, with the exception of Y6 who were on a school trip, spent time with Mr Comerford talking about the King’s environmental credentials, discussing how to reduce their carbon footprint through planting, and then being involved in an activity in the Nature Area…
- Y3 planted tomatoes and beans from the greenhouse.
- Y4 had their planting of veggies interrupted by the rain.
- Y5 began their very own pumpkin competition.
- Y7 added to the herb garden and learnt about companion planting to reduce reliance on chemicals.
- Y8 investigated how we could make better use of the school garden by cultivating fruit and vegetables through the winter.
The centre-piece of the day was a tree-planting in honour of the Coronation, with the ECO Council, along with a child from each Pre Prep Form being involved in a beautiful ceremony at morning break. We now have an impressive looking lime tree in the Nature Area, and each of the children took a leaf out of the King’s book by shaking hands with the tree and wishing it a long life!
A time capsule has also begun, for the children of 2073. This is the final part of the School’s Coronation activities, the burying of a time capsule, which will take place after half term. Pupils in each year group are covering different aspects of life - for them and others in 2023. This is a great project for each year group to take part in - covering these subject areas:
- EYFS: school uniform, school food and favourite food
- Y1, Y2: Kingshott life – lessons, hobbies, teachers, friends
- Y3: school structure, developments, events and teachers
- Y4: the cost of everyday items in 2023
- Y5: famous people from all walks of life – sport, the arts, politics, science
- Y6: What is in the news in 2023
- Y7: sporting events and teams of the last year
- Y8: Eco problems facing the World
Even the entrance to the School was given the royal treatment for the Coronation weekend... we hope all of our community - parents and locals alike enjoyed viewing the crown atop our Kingshott sign!
