We are delighted that Kingshott has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag award thanks to the hard work and efforts of our dedicated Eco-Committee.
Pupils on the committee worked incredibly hard over the last academic year to be more environmentally friendly and to raise eco-awareness across the school. Their efforts were rewarded over the summer when the news came in that they had successfully achieved the Green Flag award.
“The Eco-Schools Green Flag award is an internationally recognised symbol of high environmental standards,” says Head, David Weston. “All of our pupils and staff who have been involved in helping Kingshott to achieve this award deserve immense credit for their hard work and their passion for protecting our planet.”
The journey to win this Eco-Schools Award began with the Eco-Committee, who conducted an environmental review, assessing how eco-friendly Kingshott is. The pupils reviewed everything from biodiversity within the school grounds, to how pupils and staff members travel to school. Building on their findings, pupils and the Eco-Committee co-ordinators – Ms Whiteford, Mr Comerford and Miss Godfrey - then planned a year of action designed to advance their school’s green credentials, improve their local environment, and protect our planet.
“As the Eco-Schools programme is now a global initiative, Kingshott joins a community of like-minded pupils across the world who are all striving to support the environment,” concludes Eco-Committee co-ordinator Mrs Whiteford. "Over the coming months and years ahead, we will all be working hard to keep our Green Flag status and to maintain the same level of eco-awareness across our school."
