Our annual exhibition provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase our amazing Art, and Design and Technology Departments. Pupils were able to show their families what they have been busy creating over the past year. This year, the exhibition moved to the superbly sunny Drama Studio - allowing the artworks to be really showcased in new surroundings.
"Art is incredibly strong at Kingshott," says Kingshott's Head, David Weston. "The depth and breadth of Art that all of our students take part in, from the Nursery all the way through to our oldest year groups, is impressive. The Art and Design departments are incredibly inspiring - which was definitely 'on show' at the exhibition!"
Work was on display from the Design and Technology Department from Year 3 through to 8. The quality and range was exceptional and included:
- Year 3's animated butterflies, bendy card fish, and ‘insect machines’ (wire crank automata)
- Year 4's ‘insect machines’
- Year 5's fish made from softwood and laser cut acrylic (moulded using a hot air gun)
- Year 6's ‘Flying Creatures’, hanging from the ceiling - with laminated plywood wings and shaped softwood bodies
- Year 7's ‘Make a Scene’ project - of a layered diorama using digital imagery edited using CAD and cut using the laser cutter
- Year 8's Automata - of friction cams, cranks, with a blend of laser cut and hand made elements.
The artwork included:
- Nursery to Year 2 exhibited a range of pieces demonstrating work completed throughout the year (one piece from every child)
- Year 3 showcased their cupcake paintings and ‘milk bottle’ beetles
- Year 4 displayed their clay houses and house paintings, as well as their insects sculptures and mixed media Jellyfish
- Year 5 exhibited daffodil paintings, 'Fabios' ice creams and aboriginal inspired art
- Year 6 showcased their 'under the sea' fish sculptures and their 'fur and feathers' animal canvases
- Year 7 displayed their Matilda televisions and their Georgia O'Keeffe inspired natural forms
- Year 8 exhibited their clay 'big breakfasts' and giant letters made for the Matilda staging.
"It was a fantastic exhibition showcasing work from the whole school with every child able to be a part of it," says Head of Art, Mrs Whittaker. "It was lovey to see how proud they were to show off their work and all the visitors were thoroughly impressed with displays."
