Year 5 and 6 enjoyed getting into the Autumnal countryside for an English homework earlier this term. Their challenge was to spend some time in nature and then write a journal entry for The Guardian Young Country Diary column.
We were really impressed by the range of pieces that the children wrote and thrilled to discover that two of our Year 5s have been approached to have their writing published in The Guardian.
One pupil had his fantastic piece on mining bees published on 26th October and another will have his writing on a black squirrel spotted in the school grounds published on 23rd November. If you’d like to read them, take a look here: www.theguardian.com/environment/series/young-country-diary
Both pupils were thrilled to have their pieces chosen, especially because they were paid by the word, like professional journalists!
